Gold and silver settle lower in New York

New York (Sept 11)  Gold futures fell for a fourth straight session today, hurt by a dollar that remained supported by expectations the Federal Reserve will raise U.S. interest rates sooner than forecast.

Gold futures for December delivery lost 0.5% to finish at US$1,239 an ounce.

In other metals, September silver futures dropped 1.7% to US$18.53 an ounce.

Platinum futures for October delivery fell 0.7% to US$1,370.70 an ounce. The price touched US$1,368.10, the lowest since February 4.

Palladium futures for December delivery declined 1.9% to US$833.20 an ounce. The metal touched US$830.60, the lowest since June 26.
