Gold and silver miners up as precious metal prices rise

Toronto-Canada (Dec 27)  Shares of US-listed gold and silver miners jump as gold prices rise in Asian trade on light buying out of China after the long Christmas weekend even as a firm dollar capped the gains

 

** Spot gold rises as much as 1.36 pct to $1,148.98 an ounce, while U.S. gold futures rise as much as 1.60 pct to $1,151.7 an ounce - both touch 2 week-high

 

** Barrick Gold Corp, world's biggest bullion producer, up 2.2 pct at $14.87 premarket

 

** Other gold miners: Yamana Gold Inc up 3.54 pct, Goldcorp Inc up 1.11 pct

 

** Silver prices up as much as 2.1 pct, touches one-week high of $16.05/ounce

 

** First Majestic Silver Corp up 4.2 pct, Silver Wheaton Corp 2.56 pct, Hecla Mining Co 2.47 pct, Fortuna Silver Mines Inc 2.35 pct
