Gold price and silver price slip in Friday trading

New York (Jan 7)  The January gold contract on the New York Mercantile Exchange closed today at $1,171.90 an ounce, down $7.80.

The current silver contract on the "NYMEX" closed at $16.47 an ounce, down 12 cents.

However, spot palladium soared $13 (nearly 2%) to $756 on prospects of greater 2017 car sales in the US.
