March 31, 2018

Moscow (Mar 31)  The Russian government is now moving with speed to finalise the successful implementation of the joint venture project with Zimbabwe that will see the two countries exploring the Darwendale platinum deposits.

Special Advisor to the President, Ambassador Chris Mutsvangwa was part of the three member Zimbabwe delegation that was in Russia mid March to observe that country’s presidential elections.

The other two delegates were Zimbabwe Electoral Commission Chairperson Justice Priscilla Chigumba who was representing the electoral management body and Member of Parliament for Makonde West Cde Kindness Paradza representing the Parliament of Zimbabwe.

Cde Mutsvangwa who was representing the government of Zimbabwe said besides observing the elections, he held some bilateral meetings with Russian government officials where they discussed the implementation of the Darwendale platinum deal.

Observing the elections in Russia was a learning curve for Zimbabwe which has recently adopted an open policy for all observers wishing to be part of the democratic process in Zimbabwe, noted Cde Mutsvangwa.

Russia’s foreign minister Mr Sergei Lavrov was in Zimbabwe recently and held talks with the country’s leadership with the two sides committing to strengthen trade and economic ties.
