Silver Edges Up to $19.49 an Ounce

New York (Dec 23)  Unlike gold, silver prices increased today. Silver futures for March delivery on the Comex in New York were up $0.032 to $19.49 an ounce.

With Christmas just days away, activity on the markets was minimal today – a trend expected to continue this week and next, the source said.

Also impacting metal prices is the U.S. Federal Reserve’s announcement last week to begin tapering its stimulus program, Reuters reported.

The economy continues to show signs of improvement, with the latest data showing consumer spending rose in November and personal income increased during the same month, MarketWatch reported.
