Gold settles at lowest price of the year

San Francisco (Mar 6)  Gold futures dropped on Friday as a rally in the dollar on the back of an upbeat U.S. jobs report sent gold prices to their lowest settlement level of the year. April gold GCJ5, -2.45% dropped $31.90, or 2.7%, to settle at $1,164.30 an ounce on Comex. For the week, prices lost 4%, based on the most active contracts, according to FactSet.

Spot silver also plunged more than 2% to $15.89, while platinum dropped $23 to $1,159 and palladium lost $10 closing at $819.
