On silver’s 1-year chart we can see that a fine large Double Bottom is completing. We already had the breakout on good volume from the 2nd trough of this Double Bottom in the middle of February, and it was this event that has (rightly) caused traders to pile into...

Speculating successfully on the price of Silver is generally not easy to achieve compared to other commodities and currencies. Movement in the price of Silver over the years has been marked by sudden explosive directional moves, the occasional good trend, and long...

The good news is: In spite of a rough week for the major averages, new lows increased only modestly. The negatives: The number of new highs declined sharply last week.

Caution is now advised as prices have been rejected at resistance with speculation at the highest level in over a year.

Current investing model favors equities and both the growth and energy sector are on major buy signals. Investors should stay invested and new money should wait for the 4 year cycle bottom in coming months.

Weekends are a good time to review investment risk management strategies. If an approach or system can manage to avoid the common bear market pitfalls below, the odds of successfully navigating though the next crisis should improve

The Dow is down about 2% for the week, so minor that it’s hardly a blip on the charts. However, given the similar declines in global markets, the continuing dismal economic news out of China, and concerns about the Ukraine/Russia situation, the decline has gotten...

It is remarkable how billions of human beings are using fiat currencies in the world today without any understanding at all of what they are doing. Curiosity and intellect are indeed very limited in supply amongst humans.

Roughly half of the U.S. population owns stocks, which equates to approximately 156 million people. Those 156 million people along with millions more around the globe determine the value of our portfolios. When the aggregate outlook for the economy, earnings,...

In the last few months, something major has begun. That something is inflation. Regardless of what the CPI inflation measure tells you, the core items that affect most consumers’ pockets are healthcare, housing (rental or home prices), and food. All of these are...

While silver is still holding strong into 2014, its price performance is not nearly as impressive as many have come to expect. Is this a bad thing? To my mind, not really. First off, there is no guarantee historically that silver has to move with the other precious...

Briefly: In our opinion short speculative positions (half) in silver and mining stocks are justified from the risk/reward perspective.

So far this year gold has probably been the best performing asset class of all having risen around 12% to date. But, within the overall precious metals sector, silver has only moved up a seemingly disappointing 7%, platinum 8% and palladium perhaps an even more...

In the early 1990s, U.S. investors did not pay much attention to economic happenings in the likes of Vietnam, India, or Brazil. By the time Thomas Freidman’s book The World Is Flat hit the shelves in 2005, U.S. investors were overwhelmed with non-stop hype about the...

A curious thing has started to happen this year and that is the rather large divergence between copper and the S&P500.

It can be difficult to completely avoid a $5 trillion elephant in the middle of one's own living room. In an ironic twist, millions of people who are investing for retirement specifically to escape from dependence on Social Security may find that no matter where in...

In the news today; we saw the Corporate media engage in a typically Machiavellian attempt to present the West’s “debt problem”. It did this by first hiding the explosion of Western debt within the total growth of overall global debt.

After posting another new high last week, stocks were taking a breather during Monday’s session. The primary catalyst came out of China.

In our opinion short speculative positions (half) in silver and mining stocks are justified from the risk/reward perspective.

In this Weekend Report I want to take a good hard look at silver which has been the laggard in the precious metals complex to see if there is something technically wrong. If you been following the precious metals complex for any length of time you’ll know that...

It has been quite some time since we did a ‘Myth Busters’, even though there obviously remains quite a bit of mythology. So we’re going to chop away at it piece by piece and demonstrate once again that the media, government, and what I like to the call the ‘...

The market has been following the average seasonal pattern pretty closely and that pattern calls for another month of new highs.

The Federal Reserve has signaled to the markets that economic data would have to veer significantly off their anticipated path to terminate the Fed’s tapering process. Some additional taper-friendly remarks were made this week.

There is something rather absurd about the ever-so-slightly loosening death grip that the mainstream financial media has around the issue of precious metals price manipulation. The painfully reluctant (and largely incomplete) reports on the subject have fueled a...

Stocks came under selling pressure on Monday in the wake of renewed concerns over geopolitical instability in Eastern Europe. An escalation of tension between Russia and the Ukraine led to a plunge in Russia’s stock market, which in turn had a spillover effect on U...

Over the past several years, thousands and perhaps millions of people have made the unconventional move into physical silver bullion. Although they represent a very small number of people, the fact they are doing this at all represents a remarkable change. Those who...

As working folks get closer to hanging up their spurs, it is easy to become overwhelmed. When should you take Social Security? What type of insurance do you need? Should you buy an annuity? Do you need nursing home insurance? Should you roll over your 401(k) into an...

Anyone who follows the markets knows that action from central banks tends to impact risk-related behavior, often in a significant manner. With the European Central Bank (ECB) meeting Thursday, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) is calling for a more proactive...

For the past three decades; we have been subjected to the mythology that when the Rich get richer “it’s good for the economy”. This mythology has been debunked in several of my own previous commentaries, most notably The Pareto Threshold.

Any way you cut it, whether stocks are in a final (minor e wave up) (or the beginning of a larger V-up) to new highs for the rally from 2009 or whether stocks are inside a corrective rally, retracing 60% to 80% of the January 2014 decline, a massive stock market...

The alternate financial media has been abuzz of late with bizarre stories of the alleged suicides of prominent members of world banking and finance.

Monday and Tuesday have been about the conflict in Ukraine. Monday’s news was fear related; Tuesday’s news was better.

In a nearly $13 billion settlement with the US Justice Department in November 2013, JPMorganChase admitted that it, along with every other large US bank, had engaged in mortgage fraud as a routine business practice, sowing the seeds of the mortgage meltdown....

Earlier today, the U.S. dollar moved higher after positive economic data. The Commerce Department reported that personal spending rose 0.4% (above expectations for an increase of 0.1%) and personal income rose 0.3% (also above expectations for a 0.2% increase....

There are a lot of moving parts to any geopolitical crisis, and thus, things can change quickly and dramatically. Therefore, it is important that we remain flexible and make decisions based on hard evidence, rather than fear.

Investors are currently receiving mixed messages regarding the ramifications resulting from the Fed’s exit of debt monetization. Officials from the Federal Reserve are assuring market participants that there will be a smooth transition from the central bank’s...

In late January/early February, economic fundamentals were looking shaky. The negative data spilled over from the fundamentals into the technicals. The chart of the S&P 500 below shows a vulnerable stock market on Monday, February 3.

The S&P 500 Index is most likely to be in a topping pattern with an upside bias that lasts for at least another 18 months. This provocative thought is based upon the collective technical analysis of the S&P charts at different time frames (Daily, weekly...

The good news is: Most of the major averages closed at all time or multi year highs on Thursday or Friday. The negatives: The major indices were up 6% - 9% in February leaving the market overbought. New highs have picked up quite nicely, however, they are running...
